I'm looking to get a new rig, total cost under ~$3000 - already have the displays and accessories.
I use my PC to do web development (Dreamweaver, photoshop, flash on multiple monitors) and gaming (MMO's and games like Arkham City, Skyrim and Civ - not really into shooters like Crysis) I have two 27" monitors running at 1920x1080 on a Radeon HD 4870 - I'd like to be able to go higher. I also have 2 SSDs which is why I included the hot swap bay. All looking good, and when you add those SSD's will be one mean machine! One question though: Are you planning on adding another monitor to the mix for surround vision gaming? If so, you might want to pay the extra to switch from the Pr/Perf king 660 Ti to the Gtx 680's in SLI; the increase in price will go a long way. |

Take a look at this system. This will give you more GPU power for not too much more money. A better PSU and case for air cooling the GPUs. You need to move up to Windows Pro or you won't be able to add more memory in the future with out changing the Windows version first. Win-7 Home is limited to 16GBs. Frank's build is much better and still in budget. Win...Win..
 Everyone lately seems to migrate to the Hailstorm's 800D case but the HafX has much better airflow, but the top 240mm rad with its two fans will help. HafX is the best for air cooling and the 800D is a great water cooled case. Sharv...The 800w psu will work with your build, but even DS has recommended at least a 1000w psu with oc'd sli cards.and the X79's chipset. Your build isn't video card oc'd, but if overclocking makes it that close then more headroom with the 1050HX is the way to go, plus the HX has a 7 year warranty and is modular. If you ever have to swap it, only the two mobo cables have to be re-routed. Just some thoughts. Good Luck.

First off the 3820 can do stage 2 just call ds and ask them, they will oc it to 4.5
 just like every other processor. The 800d already has 4 hot swap bays so unless you have 6 drives the extra hot swap bays in the 5.25 inch bays is a waste. I think you will be fine with the hailstorm and its a beautiful case

I know you really like the 800D Hailstorm case. But it really is designed with full liquid cooling in mind. The HAF X is a much better case for air cooling. To cool the graphics cards in the 800D with air you would need to add extra fans. There is an option to add 120mm side fans to the 800D but the HAF X already comes with a 200mm side fan for the graphics cards. Also the HAF X has 2 hotswap bays. I actually have 2 DS systems. One has a dual loop full liquid cooling system with the 800D case and I love it. The other is an air cooled system using the HAF X and I love it too. I like both cases but for air cooling or partial air cooling the HAF X has the 800D beat hands down in my opinion. That doesn't mean that the 800D can't be made to work with air cooling if you like the looks or all the hot swap bays.
