Topic: Yet another build, with questions Posted: 15 Jan 2010 at 3:51am |
Hey there, new visitor here with a few questions about a build. I'm currently running on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+, 2.2 GHz, 3 gigs ram, Nvidia 9800 GTX graphics card. I'm finding I'm about to fall off the bottom end of the recommended gaming specs for a lot of the games I play, which are mostly RPGs and MMOs. I generally play about 1680x1050 resolution, single monitor. Here's what I was looking at getting:
Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Not Available Trim Accents: - Not Available Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz Corsair Dominator with DHX Extreme Edition Power Supply: 1000W Corsair (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (1TB Seagate/Western Digital (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache) (SATA) (Extreme Speed) Set 1 Raid Options: - Not Available Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 22x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Asetek Liquid CPU Cooler (120mm Radiator) H20 Tube Color:- Not Available Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - Not Available Chassis Mods: - Not Available Noise Reduction: - Not Available Boost Processor: FREE: Stage 1: Overclock the processor between 3.3GHz to 3.9GHz (Requires Air Cooling Upgrade) Boost Video Card: - Not Available Boost Memory: - Not Available Boost OS: FREE: Yes, Disable and tweak all of the non-crucial services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - Not Available Office: - Not Available Benchmarking: - Not Available Install/Test Game: FREE: Please include a free copy of a hot-selling game Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - White (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-10 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty Later on if necessary I'd throw in another 5870 to extend the operational lifetime (which I expect to be 5-6 years, similar to my current computer,) so for now my budget's around 2500. Pretty much I have a couple questions before I pull the trigger: 1) Should I wait? I was reading on these forums Fermi and i9 will push down prices on current stuff, and if the SSDs come down in price I may consider adding one. I'm not in a particular hurry but I would like to upgrade before the next online FF comes out. How often does DS have sales? 2) Do I really need the EVGA 3x SLI, or could/should I go with a less pricey mb since I don't see myself doing anything requiring triple Crossfire? Same question about the power supply. |

I would have gone with win7 pro just incase but that is damn good build, and it has much room to grow if you wanted it to. congrats thats what you call a smart buy this case will cost very little over the years to upgrade and keep powerful, I think that is my favorite feature of all these builds once again Congrats And let the torture begin
