My monitors are 22" widescreens, I run it at 1920x1600 I think it is.  I'm at school right now. I play WoW, AOE3, C&C3 Kanes Wrath, Red Alert 3, Assassins Creed.

Kaleliar wow doesn't utilize sli so a 295 won't do that great with wow, it will go great with FPS games but for games that don't utilize sli its not that great.

here is the deal, 1 x 295 can run your 1900 x 1200 with many games but not the ones that don't use sli.

the other choice is to get 2 x 285, which will cost lots more.

also with a 965 you can use ram as high as you want.

I suggest going with a 940 or a 920.

also I see you have picked no OS, what did you have in mind?

your thoughts so far

Don't forget to get the $45 CPU overclock that will also be covered by your warranty.  I got a i7 920 OC to 3.59Ghz on V8 air compared to 2.66 stock.  With the higher end chips and better cooling you are likely to do a lot better than that.

Since Digital Storm will do the CPU OC and warranty it, I would strongly suggest spending the extra $45 for the CPU OC.  The folks on the forum can help you with overclocking the graphic card if you like.

I'm not a huge overclock fan.  i fried a few chips once while following instructions and im hesitant to do it again.
As to the chips, with the HT in the 965, id like that when the software catches up with it.

this is not the same OC you expereinced, you don't have to do anything, DS adjusts the settings for you ;)

for OS make sure you go with vista 64bit otherwise you can't use all your sytem's resources.

here you go Ticket# 252305 --- Price: $3516 (To see this build click here) price after promotional discount $3316

I'd only need one Graphics Card, so just one 285. the RAM at 6GB is nice but id prefer the CPU Over the RAM.  If i get the 965, I don't have to buy a new OS when I would eventually buy the CPU. I can always buy more RAM.

My major question tho was, if i would need to Water cool if i am not OCing the CPU.

I have to remember that my Budget is $3200, but if I'm under thats even better.

really go with the 920 and let DS OC it, even if you do not get LC and get air I can see the 920 getting 3.3 on AIR easily, that way you save a lot of money, cause if you do not plan on OCing at all then the 965 is a little bit of a waste

Why do they blame me for all their little failings? They use my name as if I spent my entire day sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive - Lucifer

I can get to about $3283 prediscount, by getting the cheap RAM for now, OCing the 965, and getting the one card.
Once i get settled in with the beast ill get it its RAM upgrade
Everything i have read about the 285 says that if you arent really playing Online games you dont need to SLI, and since the online games i will play dont use SLI dont really need it.
I'll keep the Water, tho i lean more towards the antec 900 only because my current system is in one. ill try out the other case.

It'll likely be 3-4 months before i buy tho. since im moving about 1400 miles.

if its 3-4 months till you buy it will be much cheaper then, and for the same price you might even get the GTX 300 cards that might come out by then with DX 11. Just remember to reconfig as the old ticket will not show price changes. The 900 is not that big, I would really recommend going with the HAF.

Cooler Master HAF 932 sorta reminds me of the Antec-900.  fewer fans, but they are all big.
New question: should i go with the cheap XMS3 RAM till i get the 12GB of the 1600 Corsair or get the Dominator 1333 3GB?
Ive also downgraded the PSU to 750 watts, i would assume that it would run the system fine. push comes to shove i have an 850 in my other tower that runs the GTX 260 fine.

furture proof your pc and go with the 1000w.

if you want to go with 965 and cheap ram go ahead.

don't go to 12GB you will have no use for it.

as for you needing one gpu, your resolution is the one that decides that not the game, the game will decide whether you can use sli or not.

what games do you play? name me a few.

take into account the 940 system I have built will beat your none oced 965

well for OC, if you can go LC on CPU, if not go v8

for your games its best you go with 2 x 285 since games like wow don't utilize sli.

I totally agree with DST4ME on virtually everything he said in his posts. Here is my two cents:

I have an Antec 900 sitting on my desk already running an old Q6600 system with 8GB of RAM. I like it a lot, but it wasn't fast enough. I have a HAF 932 based system on order right now from DS. After looking into it, that case is nothing short of  amazing.

They really thought of everything with that case. The airflow is as good as or better than the 900, but what really sets it apart is the amazing flexibility. Anything you want to do in the future, they made it easier to do it with that case. Changing CPU coolers, liquid cooling with big radiators, moving fans around, adding or removing ANY type of drive - it's all really easy.

Picking one 285 means you can always add a second and/or third later. That's good long-term planning. I would do the same on the RAM. Rather than buying cheap stuff and replacing it completely later, I would buy a smaller amount of the good stuff now and just add to it later. You'll save money in the long run by not throwing away money now on the cheap RAM that you will just toss later.

Use that same approach with the power supply. Think longer term and you save money in the long run. The difference in price between getting the 750 versus buying the 1000 now is much less than buying the 750 and then having to replace it with the 1000 in a year because you bought a second video card and an extra hard drive.

I'm also a recent liquid cooling convert. If you can get their basic LQ for the CPU, I'd get it. I think it will make any OC you get more stable. There isn't much difference in price between the good air cooling and their basic LQ either. Plus, if you want LQ it's better to have it done by somebody who does it all the time and knows what they are doing. Plus, it will all be covered by their 3 year warranty. And yes, it looks really cool with colored fluid. Angry

One nice thing about getting the 965 in a few months is the fact that the 975 will be out by then. That means the 965 will be cheaper by then. Put the money you save into buying the better RAM, bigger power supply, the GTX 300, and or LC.

Thanks for the information. The other nice part of waiting is that my budget should be bigger at that time. So I will be able to get more of what I want but cannot afford now.

I looked at other sites such as Newegg with the HAF 932 and it seems that the only problem people are having is the plate under the PSU. Other then that it is superior to the 900.

sigh... I'll have a 900 and a 932...

Should I use the onboard sound or get a soundcard?

Now for the spam...

After I pay for it i'll get a second 285, and a Velociraptor for the main HDD.

Any Idea of what i should choose for cloning software to shift the OS to the 10k drive?

For moving to a larger drive, I've always loved using Casper because it is brain-dead easy.

edit: As long as the drive isn't too full, it will move from a larger drive to a smaller drive, too.

DST4ME's suggestion is great, too.  Acronis is the only other cloning software I would personally consider using. It's really highly rated.

(You can always add that $10 light later...) Wacko

hmm good point... might as well get the glowing fluid... now should it be green or blue or red...

Is there a timeline for the GTX 300's and the next i7's? If so i have a strong feeling that this system will change dramatically.

Sigh and here i thought of another thing... Since i am a WoW junkie... would there be any possible way for them to install and tweak the game/OS so it runs well?

Edit: Do we know if discounts are applied before or after taxes... that makes a difference in what i can get.

hmmm looks like i will have to end up calling them... since i have a crafty plan on the build... get an i7 920... wait till july for more money... get the new EE processor comming out... have my friend get me Vista Ultimate for cheap. stick in new processor... upgrade when it says. dee dee dee.

I wonder if i could send the CPU and OS to the and have them do the installation/OC...

they will but they will not put the parts you send them under warranty.

they will only extend the warranty to parts they are able to purchase.

"oh im gonna OC it. its just the cost that i have to be careful of. as for games look up and it should be posted." --if cost is ANY issue at all, do not get anything but a 920 and simply OC it

"Should I use the onboard sound or get a soundcard?"  -- get a sound card, but not the wasteful 200+ dollar one unless you have a killer 7.1 system with expensive wiring and/or plan to mix audio...

-you don't need more than 750watts unless you are confident that you will indeed get a 2nd video card later on

-if you definitely plan to buy the 965 anyways, have them oc your ram for a couple bucks

-if you definitely plan to buy the 965 anyways for an extra 900 dollars or so, do yourself a favor and improve your sure system bottleneck of a single non-high performance 500gb 16mb cache hard drive with at least a better one or a raided set of cheap disks

the drive bottle neck is such a small difference that most reviews don't even bother with it.

don't OC the ram, its pointless and not worth the headache and yet another thing you won't notice any performance gain from.

"the drive bottle neck is such a small difference that most reviews don't even bother with it." --real life example.  suppose you buy this system, spending thousands of dollars.  you will not be the first one loading up in fps games.  i would on my previous dual core system on my raid0 old school raptors.

--what headache?  if you trust them to oc you're processor which already cost you almost 1000 bucks in his case, you wouldn't trust them to oc the ram properly (whose price pales in comparison)?  i would have exactly the opposite thinking, if any, although i'd get the 920

why would I want to spend my money on raid which does not raise fps by one or OCing my ram which again does not raise my fps.

its not a matter of trust its a matte of waste.

instead of a raid I go with vertex 2 and blow raid out of water. which BTW still will not do anything to raise fps.
