Some people are mostly introverted anti-social slugs and refuse to play Multiplayer.

Some people think that others who play multiplayer are nothing but murder-hoboes who like to ruin other players' games.

Some people don't work and play well with others.

ME? I like Elite: Dangerous for Multiplayer because the game is basically the same when I want to play with others and again when I feel like any of the above is true.   

Oh, a shout out to Wreckfest and Rocket League as well. Neither involve shooting so gankers need not apply.

My favorite multi-player of all time is Vietcong.  One of the first FPS games to use "shoot from behind cover".  Very immersive, no other game comes close. 

... and the battle between the community and the cheaters was quite memorable.
