Hi, I'm new here. I bailed on CyberPowerPC after reading all the negative reviews. BUT there were so many comments extolling the virtues of DS build-quality and support that I'm here, looking to build a high-powered rig. I don't actually need all this power, but I want it! Also, I'm planning on keeping this for 4-5 years, so what seems like an excessive overbuild today will probably be respectable by future standards.
Ticket # 192283.
The box will have no air flow from either side or the top, so am not sure about which case to choose. Also, I'm not sure what's the best way to get the absolute best video possible. I expect to run at 1920x1200 resolution. Price is not really an issue
I'd appreciate your opinions.
Thanks in advance!

You mentioned video, so ill assume youll need a 500+ gig for a 3rd HD to store all the Also, if you plan to OC your CPU look into liquid cooling for it + HAF case. (Since your box wont have any kind of adequate airflow having your GPUs water cooled could be an option if it gets hot in your place of "work", but in all seriousness if you plan to OC your GPUs in a naturally hot environment you will need to have them cooled w/ after market cooling solutions, which means youll end up having to go Dual Loop Liquid Cooling) - BUT - dont stop there, have them OC your memory or at least have them include a memory fan kit.
You have 2 drives that can read/write - are you planning to use them BOTH at the same time? If not, drop one and go w/ lightscribe.
There are cheaper LCDs available at newegg.
With such an expensive rig i hope you have a surger protector if not DSO offers them at a competitive price. Edited by Nomak - 09 Oct 2008 at 5:14pm |

Thanks for the quick replies...
I actually DO want the power -a gain, for the future since I'm probably going to have this for 4-5 years. I have had (several) towers in this spot for 8 years with no problems, but never anything this powerful. It's a home office, so it never gets hotter than about 80F on a summer afternoon. I can probably shove the computer desk 1-2" to let it breathe a bit on the side. I can get creative with a new spot for the power supply, so it should be able to breathe from above as well. As for HD capacity, I seem to accumulate about 25GB of assorted junk per year (huge files tend to be short lived). I figure that 5 years worth should be ~150-250GB, ergo my choice of 300 GB. The reason I took 2 Raptors is sort of complicated. Raid-1 instantly mirrors to the second drive. In the past, I've occasionally had an MS update that trashed the box so badly that I had to reinstall the OS. I finally swore never again. Ever since, I get 2 identical drives and periodically ghost one to the other (before upgrades). I could make do with a cheaper 2nd 300GB drive but this way I can just swap, restore recent data changes from a flash drive and I'm done in 10 minutes. Then I can ghost in the other direction. It's insurance that's saved me more than once! Thanks for the help! |

that is a 500 dollar raid, if you ask me totally not worth it.
I have the same stability you do, I just clone my HDD once a week or before major changes. anything happens I can pop in my clone or I can clone back to a new HDD. my cost is $100. just sharing info with you, at the end of the day, you got to do with what makes you happy |
