My friend bought a Digital Storm Protus Workstation, but he made a mistake by upgrading factory fan to the Zalman fan(6 fan). It is so loud that even I couldn't stand it when I walk in to his computer room.
I am wondering will adding the fan resistor help reducing the noise down close to the default factory fan? Cause I heard default factory fan I very quiet. |

It will lower the airflow and thus lower the noise to what extent I'm not sure.

I see, thank you DST4ME for your reply, I am wondering if it is a good idea to hook up 2 fan resistor in one fan? Cause since Zalman's RPM is much faster then the default factory fan, adding more resistor will means lowering the airflow a lot more and thus lower the noise level.

Personally I rather spend $11 per fan and get quiet fans :
Nexus 120mm Real Silent case fan - D12SL-12 Black and white or just use the oem fans. but don't put 2 of them on one fan, you can use resistors to go from 12v to 7v or 5v. Edited by DST4ME - 27 Jul 2011 at 2:50pm |
