Hi Asangard,
That is a great build for 4K. I do wonder about your motherboard choice. It seems to me, based on your choices, that you don't need a workstation class motherboard. The ASUS X99 RAMPAGE V USB 3.1 would be a better choice for a gamer. Definitely a better looking board with the red trim and has Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. The Rampage also supports USB 3.1 and the workstation board is 3.0. Unless there is something special about the workstation board that you want, I would go with the RAMPAGE. Of course the choice is up to you. Frank |

Frank,
The reason I went with the Workstation board vs the Rampage is: 1.) I don't need WiFi 2.) In 3 Way SLI the Rampage runs x16,x8,x8 while the workstation runs 3 Way SLI at x16,x16,x16 and at 4 way SLI runs at x16,x16,x16,x16. I wanted the extra lanes for future growth. bprat22, I think I will look him up and see what he thinks of the build.

The reason why it runs at x16/x16/x16/x16 on the WS board is because it has two PLX PCI-e switches. Each of those switches, which handle two of those x16 slots, connect back to the processor with only 16 lanes of PCI-e, so you will actually have less bandwidth to the GPUs than on a Rampage, which are direct connections or through lightweight switches to the CPU. The Rampage will also have lower latency and consume less power than the WS. Check out my "Configuring a Computer" thread in my footer for a more detailed description.
