First off, before I upgraded my monitor, I was playing games at a low resolution in 60fps and averaging around 55-65C while gaming. The fans hardly ever kicked on. But now ever since I upgraded my monitor, I play at a higher resolution in 144fps and my temps average at about 68-75C Sometimes it'll kick up to 76C but I don't believe I've ever seen it exceed that so far. The fans also stay on at around 50% or so and it's pretty loud. Not like extremely loud, but louder than I'm used to.
Anyway my question is, are those temperatures normal (or safe) for this card? (68-76C) I haven't really noticed any issues, but those temperatures concern me. I start to cringe once I see a card go past 65C, but 75??? ![]() Edited by Natebalzack - 16 Dec 2015 at 9:44pm |

Like Snaike said, temps are good. If I'm not mistaken, you have the Coolermaster K380 case. With its single front fan your case airflow isn't great. The Strix card dumps most of its heat into the case and the heat could be building just a bit adding to the temp as the card re-breaths the heated air.
The temps you have are perfectly safe. The added resolution and even certain games will load the card more, causing the added temp. |

Those temps seem consistent with what I see with my 970 when gaming on ultra settings.

Don't worry about temps in the 70's. I have a tri-SLI system, and the top card frequently hits 80.
I'm not exactly sure, but I think the thermal shutdown for these cards happens around 98. Obviously you never want to push it to the edge, but you're WAY below that. |

Oh don't worry, I added an additional slim intake fan on the side panel and DS was nice enough to include a rear exhaust fan. So air-flow shouldn't be much of a problem. I was just wondering if my temps were normal/safe. But thanks for the reply! :) |

Good to hear about the fans. I remember DS starting to include the rear fan. They do jump on things. Side fan is one of the best places for any add on. My ODE 600t had 2x 120mm in side window for awhile until I replaced the 570 with a heat issue.
Enjoy.

the Strix card has 3 settings, please verify which you're using. also, you can dl Asus GPU Tweak and play with the settings (overclock and fan profiles). you have yourself a custom card, so it's best to learn how to use custom settings. if your card isn't throttling on you then it's operating in a safe thermal environment. still, if you want it cooler just bump up the fan speed (at the expense of more noise).

You can use EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner with the Strix cards as well. They have been better reviewed than GPUTweak: http://www.anandtech.com/show/8589/anandtech-guide-to-video-card-overclocking-software
