Run the Oculus Rift compatibility tool here
https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/ And see if it passes all checks? Especially usb part? Only takes a minute. I'm hoping my lv4 doesn't need a usb expansion card added. Thanks for anyones help! |

You do not want to use an expansion card. I've used one before and it was not compatible with many of the USB 3.0 devices I tried to use it with...part of the reason why I decided to get my Bolt II. What motherboard do you have and what USB devices are you currently using?

I have a level 4 vanquish coming next week. Was just wondering if the USBs were compatible for the Rift. I'm not planning on having anything else plugged in to them really.

You should be good. Most modern Z170 motherboards have 4-6 USB 3.0 and usually 2 USB 2.0 ports on the back. There are headers connected to the front USB ports, as well.

The Asus Z170-K used in the LVL 4 only has 1 USB 3.0, 1 USB 3.1, 2 USB 2.0

I think the z170-k also has a type C USB 3 which can be used for OR with an adapter. Plus, 2x front USB 3.0 that connects mid board. Just double checking to confirm he's good for Occulus.

If it is a Z170-K, then it has this USB I/O:
ASMedia® USB 3.1 controller : 2 x USB 3.1/3.0/2.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, teal blue). Intel® Z170 chipset : 4 x USB 3.0/2.0 port(s) (4 at mid-board) Intel® Z170 chipset : 1 x USB 5Gb/s port(s) port(s) (1 at back panel, , Type-C, Reversible, Support 3A power output) Intel® Z170 chipset : 6 x USB 2.0/1.1 port(s) (2 at back panel, , Type-A, 4 at mid-board) I would use the 4 3.0/2.0 ports at the mid-board (2 of these will go to the front of the case; you'll have to get a USB adapter like one of the following for the other two) http://www.amazon.com/CHENYANG-Female-Mount-Motherboard-bracket/dp/B00L2N4UFU http://www.amazon.com/Tenflyer-Header-MotherBoard-USB3-0-Front/dp/B00S0UD11C/ http://www.amazon.com/ChenYang-MotherBoard-Header-4port-Front/dp/B00S6HKQQM/ The ASMedia USB ports, while they have a greater bandwidth, will have a higher latency, as well. |
