Hi,

Regarding the 5930K cpu, spoke to John a bit the other day regarding the 5960X, he said that CPU boost 2 might have stability issues, so I asked about the 5930K & he said that would work, but he said I'd have to drop 1 GPU, I asked why & he said

"That is per Intel specification.",

I didn't want to ask him what that means seeing as you folks can most likely help me, & he probably has more things to do.

So what does he mean by that?

Not sure.   The 5960x and the 5930k both have 40 lanes of Pcie which means a 4 card setup.  The 5820k has only 28 lanes which means only a 3 card setup..  Did he mean the 5820k?

Might have to ask him, unless someone else here can say.

If you're using the M.2 slot for storage, on some motherboards, the M.2 shares bandwidth with either the number 4 or 5 Pciex16 slot.   Not sure what the deal with that would be.

How many GPUs are you intending to have?

This doesn't make much sense as the cores clock is independent of the clock for the uncore.

This is the conversation pretty much.

Hi John,

Could the Intel Core i7 5930K 3.5GHz (Six-Core) (Unlocked CPU) CPU have Stage 2 CPU boost, with full stability?

What about the Intel Core i7 5820K 3.3GHz (Six-Core) (Unlocked CPU)?

---

Hi,

The i7 5930k does support the Stage 2 overclock but it does not support 4xSLI, it only support 3xSLI. The Stage 2 overclock does not make a huge difference in performance. You can stay with i7 5960X and keep 4xSLI or go with i7 5930 and drop one video card.

Please let is know.

Regards,
John

Hi John,

Why doesn't the I7 5930K support 4-way sli?

---

That is per Intel specification.

Regards,
John

I intend to have 4 980's, if I can downgrade the CPU to 5930K & have a 4-way sli that would be great.

I'm thinking he's thinking the 5820k and not the 5930k for the 4 way 980.

Unless I'm missing something. Hahaha

Hmm alright, thanks.

What's the main differences between the 5930K & the 5960X, saw somewhere on the internet that someone said CPU's that end in X are just "Because I can" cpu's. Seeing as the 5960X is about $1000, & the 5930K is somewhere $500 less.

The main difference is the 5960x is 8 core with larger cache. The 5930k is 6 core.
