Topic: Is this normal? (velox) Posted: 05 Mar 2015 at 5:23am |
Hi all - here is my experience so far.
December 26th order placed (Velox) DS delayed order to Jan 15. DS offered to switch to Apollo case and I declined. DS delayed order to end of January. DS delayed order to end of February. DS messaged me stating that I wanted to switch to the K380 case, which I never expressed any interest in. DS delayed order to ship by the end of first week of March. March 3rd -Stage 7 QA passed with estimated ship of March 4th. March 5th - order not shipped. I find it confusing that a machine can pass quality assurance, yet still need to be held for additional troubleshooting. I also find it confusing that DS offers generic case swaps without any customer input when the entire point of enthusiast builds is to get cool and unique things.... Such as the Velox case. What do you guys think? Is this normal behavior for the DS build process? |

Hi scratch..... The Velox case is an in house design and extremely popular. The issues I've seen is that it is selling faster than they've been able to keep up. It's availability has changed and I think that's the issue. They've been running out of cases. Back orders are first come first serve.
I'm sure DS hates this as much as customers. They really do want to build and ship as soon as possible. Hope this helps. Edited by bprat22 - 05 Mar 2015 at 5:42am |

Hi Scratch,
With the Velox being a new proprietary case they have had their supply problems. I think they offered you an alternative case because you have been delayed so long. They were just looking out for your best interest. In regards to the quality control and still didn't ship. Based on my experience with manufacturing electronic devices, it is very possible that QA spotted something and requested it be fixed before it shipped. If it was a minor problem QA could have signed off on the computer with an exception. Of course I don't know what happen but you can be assured DS will do everything they can to get you a great computer as quickly as possible. Frank |

You're order already passed Stage 7 (QA). It's actually in the shipping/packaging phase. The team said it's going to ship out most likely this Friday.
It's taken time due to our backlog, but we're catching up fast! |

One thing I've learned with DS is to be patient.
My laptop I ordered on 2/7/15 shipped on 2/27/15 and is stuck now in Jackson Ms. But once it does get here I know it will be a fabulous piece of machine!!! Because all the DS machines I've bought are fabulous. Bless your heart scratch you have waited a long, long time!!!! |

Question for you folks
Do you think cold weather poses any risk to a closed loop CPU Cooler during shipment? I.e. the water freezes in the coil and expands, causing damage during shipment ? Just curious because of the weather on the east coast. Thanks Edited by scratch - 08 Mar 2015 at 6:53am |

I don't know what they use for the coolant. You would think something that does not freeze, but I don't know.
If it's a Corsair cooler, you could email them |

This is speculative, but the theory is there's ethylene glycol in the coolant

Hopefully someone can help me please I will email management later. The velox case I received has a broken left side panel and the screws do not catch on the hole. One of them is completely detached and the other is forces in a closed position. I see no way of opening the case except breaking something to get it open.
here is a picture showing the screw being completely detached and still locked in place. Anyone got any ideas ? Can't open the case to get the foam out. http://imgur.com/MKJv1NM |

Hi scrtch,
I couldn't get your address to work. Sorry about your problem. Can't really comment with out a picture other than to contact DS. They will help you out with a new panel if needed. After you get it open make sure you reseat your graphic card and your memory sticks. Good chance these came unseated with what ever took place with your case. Frank |

DS closes at 5 Pacific time until Monday. I'd call them as soon as you can.
I can't tell from the pic what's going on. Is it one of the rear knurled thumb screws on the back? |

Correct neither thumb screw is catching the inner bushing. One is stuck open the other stuck closed. I jostled it and the bushing came loose and is somewhere inside the case. But I got the side panel open at least. Just won't close ever again

DS will send you a new one. I'd try to find that bushing before firing it up. If everything seems ok, I'd tape the panel on for now and have fun with it.
Check the insides like Frank suggested first. Edited by bprat22 - 13 Mar 2015 at 1:32pm |

Looks like your system had a rough ride, the thumb screws on the back panel (red arrows below) are what you unscrew and pull back to take the panel off. PLEASE NOTE, the thumb screws are designed to stay on the door, they don't come off, this way you never loose them.
We'll be more than happy to help take care of this for you, please email [email protected] |

Thanks, will do. The left side thumb screws are damaged and don't lock in but the panel stays put fine.
Got her booted up just fine. First impression is that 144hz is the truth and the corsair performance fans are quieter than expected. I'll ramble more another day with pictures ect. Thanks boys have a good weekend |

Had a scare this morning that I wanted to run by you guys.
When i powered on the computer this morning it failed to boot and only 3 of the 6 fans were spinning (the 3 in front). I was unable to shut it down and had to toggle the power supply directly which cause an overhead light in my house to blow. I recently bought brand new surge protectos to hopefully protect the new computer and only have 5 things plugged into it. I live in a modern house that shouldn't have any wiring problems. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000J2EN4S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I reseated all of the components for a second time since yesterday and it was able to boot successfully without issue. Do you think it could be my electrical, or perhaps a loose connection to the power supply? Hoping this is the last scare because when it failed to boot i nearly had a heart attack. |

Hi scratch.... Yeah, that is a heart stopping experience. Been there.
It could be a one time fluke. Or, it could be pretty much anything at this point. I'd wait and see. Next time it happens, if it does, look for the green SB PWR led on the mobo and see if its on before you do anything else. Your mobo manual has a mobo overview pic for help. It's usually below the Pcie slots but with the Velox inverted mobo, it would be near the top. If no green light then you might have a psu issue. If the led is on, then it could be a bad video card, ram, etc. If it happens again, , clear the problem, plug the psu directly into a wall outlet, no surge protector, and try that for awhile. Fingers crossed. Edit... make sure the psu AC cable is seated tightly into the back. They can be a tight fit and not be seated all the way. Check the connectors coming from the psu itself if its a modular type. Edited by bprat22 - 14 Mar 2015 at 8:49am |

Try a quality surge protector to be safe. Low-end battery backup units do cause a lot of issues.
