Intel will introduce 6-core mainstream processors in 2018 on Coffee Lake, the 4th-generation of 14nm process node parts.

Games are still not effective enough to fully use 4-cores, so I wouldn't hold out for it until then.

Completely unnecessary unless you are running enterprise server workloads, HPC apps, video editing/encoding/decoding, or have many simultaneous virtual machines...

I have a bunch of those combined, I never have enough cores for my home use and I don't want a server at home.
