I just read an article that states Microsoft will give free upgrades to Windows 10 if someone is using Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows phone 8.1
Here is the link to the article: http://www.msn.com/en-us/money/technology/microsoft-to-give-away-windows-10-as-free-upgrade/ar-AA8rgy9?ocid=U219DHP |

You know, I'm fairly surprised they decided to give 7 the free update. 8.1 and 8 (Why you would remain in 8 as opposed to 8.1 is still a mystery to me) are pretty much give mes, but I could have seen them going either way with 7. My guess is that its an attempt to shore up their market share, not that there are any big concerns there. At the same time, MS has put themselves into a position where they are going to be supporting 7 for a long time, perhaps not to XP levels, but still a good while.

Yes, I was very pleased to see they're offering the free upgrade to Windows 7 customers as well.
The offer is good for a year and then you'll have to pay to upgrade to 10 as with previous OSes. There was some initial confusion as to whether Windows 10 would go subscription after a year and customers might have to subscribe to continue to get patches, but that's not the case. Windows 10 will not have a subscription model at all. Certainly possible with the next version of Windows after that. |

I assume I will update my computers although so far I am not sure if I like some of the things they are mentioning that they are including like the Cortana thing.
I just hope it can be disabled since I have no need for it at all. I will probably wait a few months before updating my systems to make sure I want to do it even for free. |

Ditto, it will probably be at least half a year or so before I make the change (if I do). |

That's good to hear. Not sure if I'll fiddle around with the preview this time or not yet. |

I was just pushed an update and had my first issue with it...can't open the Start Menu right now. Others are experiencing the issue as well and Microsoft is aware of the problem and working on a fix.

Interesting. If I remember correctly that happened in the preview for 8 as well.

I'll probably update when it comes available. Just getting bored with Windows 7. Need a change.
Something new to complain about.

You could always downgrade to the launch version of Vista if you really want to complain. ![]() |

I never had a problem with Vista...but I was a late adopter...they were not selling the Windows Media Center for XP anymore and my only option was to go with Vista. I guess they had worked out the driver issues by the time I upgraded.
I had both the W7 TP and W8 TP and did not have a single problem with either of them. Beta tested Win95 (and Internet Explorer at the same time)...can't recall if there were any issues. |
