    Posted: 05 Oct 2015 at 5:41pm
I just order my first DS mashine, and right away i have a question.
My Power Supply is: 850W EVGA SuperNOVA. In the next 6-8 month i plan to
buy second 980 Ti ( just can't afford it right now). Is my PS is going to hold,or i need to upgrade before it too late?
Thanks a bunch.

Yes, you'll be good with. If you plan to really crank on the overclocks yourself, you may want to consider bumping it to 1000W.

No problem. Overclocking with EVGA Precision or MSI Afterburner (either will work for any 980 Ti card, even ASUS') is not too hard. I'd suggest looking at this video that will walk you through overclocking with EVGA's tool: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TF_89emuI9k. It shows you how to overclock your cards without risking damage to them. You can push them a little without increasing the voltage, or you can push them more with a little voltage, the trade off being more power consumption, heat, and reduced component life.

I'm shooting myself in the foot for overlooking the PSU and future SLI upgrades. Got the 750W PSU and a single 980 Ti. Oh well...might just be another excuse in the future to order another PC with Digital Storm (after the wife orders one, of course).

You may be able to pull it off. Some small factor PC's out there make due with a lot less...I know some are planning for SLI Titan X cards on an X99 platform with a 700W PSU, although stock speeds on everything. You'll just want to get something to measure your power draw at the wall and then you can figure how much power you have left. Remember that the rated power is for continuous output from the PSU...meaning that if it has 90% efficiency at high load (which is exceptional, but good to be conservative here) a 750W can draw 833W continuously from the wall (bear in mind that wall power voltage fluctuates with noise, which will affect your readings, too, so just try to figure an average). But you do't want to run continuously at 100%; the PSU degrades over time, so notch it down to 90-95% of that, and that should be the limit of what you aim for.

i answered this in another thread, but i'll restate here.

you system (minus gpu's) will probably draw around 100 watts under load.  a single 980ti draws ~425 watts under extreme load.  adding another 980ti will add ~225 watts to the equation.  that's if you don't increase the oc'ing further.  you're looking at ~750 total system watts power draw under extreme load.
