I know this has been asked before. And I looked at all the answers(well most).
My cube has a I7 990x Extreme, X58 MB, GTX 680, Old WD Black 1TB, Newer 1TB Pro Samsung, 18 Ram. And they all work fine. Play all my games great. Should I just wait till they fail? My processor is LC which might be an issue for me replacing. As I've never done that before. I love my case and have thought about when stuff fails to send it back to DS and have them build me a new one with my case. But I don't know if they would do that. My system was built in 2011. |

To upgrade, if your water block is compatible with the new socket you'd be moving to and have flexible tubing, you simply remove the water block and the board with the processor, and replace it with the new board and processor, reattach the water block with new thermal interface material, add DDR4 memory and everything else, and you should be good.
If the water block won't fit, you will need to drain the liquid cooling loop to attach a new block that will work. I'd recommend looking at the charts on the bottom of this page and this page...you'll want something near the bottom of the chart with the smallest delta between the ambient room temperature and the CPU temp (meaning it is running the coolest, given the room temperature). Thermalbench.com and xtremerigs.net have a lot of good information about water cooling if you're interested. As for whether you should upgrade now...if you want to go with AMD, they just released the new Ryzen processors, and they are good. If you want to stick with the HEDT Intel processor, I'd recommend waiting until Skylake-X later this year on the X299 platform (I'd say the chipset is more worthwhile to wait for than the CPU, as I don't expect many gains in the CPU). Any way you go, you will need to upgrade to DDR4 memory. |

Hi RPGer... pretty sure DS would build you a new system in your original box.

Hi guys and thanks for the feedback. I really don't want to mess with LC. Have no problem taking off the Tygon tubing to drain and refill now. But the rest of it .
Guess I should wait until stuff starts to fail. Since my case has 11 fans maybe I don't need LC. Ah Democules wish I could help. I love my case though. Yeah if DS will rebuild me a new system in my case that's what I will do when things start to fail. Thanks. Hi bp and Snaike. |
