Topic: Windows 10 Technical Preview Posted: 01 Oct 2014 at 3:11pm |
October 1, 2014 is the first day of the Windows 10 Technical Preview. Microsoft is looking for volunteers to help test the pre-release Windows 10 OS (called Windows 10 Technical Preview).
*** Danger Will Robinson, Danger *** This is not a customer preview of a finished product, but an actual buggy version in need of volunteers to discover, document, and perhaps debug problems. Volunteers do not need a degree in computer science or years of experience, but they should be able to: * Backup their system and files, * Down load the product and burn the .iso file to a DVD, * Install the OS from the DVD, * Identify and install any missing device drivers for their hardware, * Configure the OS, * Test the OS, * Document problems, * Help debug problems when requested, * Install updates and fixes, * Recover from a damaged system and/or files, * Re-install the OS, as needed, through out the testing, and * Upgrade or fall back to their production OS once the testing ends. Interested? Visit http://preview.windows.com/ for details and to sign up. Edited by Theokritos - 01 Oct 2014 at 3:15pm |

From 8.1 --> 10?
Good luck, techy-type peoples. While you're debugging MS, imma be gaming. To quote Cypher in The Matrix; "Ignorance is bliss."

The little bit of time I've spent with it, it's quite nice actually. Not that bad. They always put in all of those disclaimers and what not about buggy versions, etc.. etc.. But it's really not. Plus it gives you a real good idea of what the finish product will be like.
Long story, short. I'm excited thus far about it and with it being "supposedly" a free upgrade for Windows 8.1 users... believe me when I say I'll be upgrading to it. |

I'm a techy type person and I installed it one of my test laptops at work. No way I'm using my beautiful beast for a Tech Preview.

Guess I was looking for more concrete evidence. Everything still says "opinion" or "suggested" or "allegedly" or "supposedly" ....
Ah well.. back to looking for truth. |

lol that's why I said supposedly.
Realistically speaking, if it's not a free upgrade for 8.1 users, I bet it'll be a sub $100 upgrade for us. |

Well Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for 7, 8 and 8.1. It will be available free for one year after it releases.
So good for us. I hate to give up windows 7 but this will be a good opportunity to upgrade to 10. Frank Free Windows 10 Edited by FrankW - 23 Jan 2015 at 1:15pm |

The GUI for Windows 10 is much more similar to Windows 7 than Windows 8. So you should be happy with the update.

Any info or thoughts as to whether games and simulator games usable in Windows 7 would play nicely in Windows 10?

I just updated my work machine to the new January release. I have had one issue so far with Windows update using WSUS. But after researching the issue it was an easy fix. I have not updated my gaming machine at home yet. i will when it releases. I don't see a problem as it is pretty much still Windows 8.1 with some new features.

OK. Thanks. Then I will assume for now that something like "Battle of Britain, Wings of Victory." which plays well with W 7, but not Windows 8 will probably not work on W 10.
But no one will know until W 10 is out. Can't imagine MS prioritizing a desk/laptop gaming system over tablet finger-poking when they can sell consoles. |
